Spring 2020 Season Update and Refunds 5/5/20
SEASON CANCELLATION & REFUNDS

Our League has determined that due to the ongoing shutdown the spring lacrosse season is not feasible and as a result has cancelled the season.  While this is disappointing for so many of us as parents, players, and coaches who plan for and look forward to lacrosse season all year, we also recognize the significance of this health crisis and understand the decision.

As a result of the cancellation we will begin processing refunds of the spring registration fees immediately. You should have received a link to the refund form by email. Please email LizHCrowley@gmail.com if you need the refund form link.

For those choosing to receive their uniform: Uniform distribution plans are being worked out. In the interest of health safety, we plan to organize a social distancing type pick up. The uniform pick up date(s) will be communicated by email.

TOLLAND LACROSSE CLUB UPDATE - 4/18/20

Hello Tolland Lacrosse Families,

We hope that all of you remain safe and healthy.

We have three items to share. The first is an update on the status of our lacrosse season. The second is our plan regarding refunds. Finally, we have skills videos created by some of our very own high school players!

Season update:
Our season continues to be on hold.  We are waiting to make a final decision based on what is believed to be in our players’ best interest and in conjunction with what our governing bodies determine. As you are likely aware, the Governor has closed schools until at least May 20th. Additionally at its April 2nd meeting, the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) maintained its position that spring sports are indefinitely suspended. The next CIAC Board meeting is scheduled for May 7th. An additional update is expected after that meeting. Some towns within the CVYL and CVGYL (the Connecticut girls and boys youth lacrosse organizations) have already canceled their seasons.

Refunds:
In the event that the season is canceled we will issue refunds by mailed check. Anyone who does not want to wait to learn about the possible cancelation of the season may request a refund now by emailing Liz Crowley: LizHCrowley@gmail.com.

All Lightning players will receive a full refund of $125, less any sibling discount.

For all other players we are offering two refund options:
A: Full refund: $225, less any sibling discount
This is a refund of the registration fee ($200) plus the uniform fee ($25).
B. Registration fee refund only, uniform will be distributed:
$200, less any sibling discount
This will refund the registration fee ($200), but not the uniform fee and you will receive your child’s uniform. Uniforms will be distributed either by drop off or pick up.

As you consider these options please be aware that we plan to use the same uniforms for the next season. Also, it is expected that uniforms will cost closer to $50 next year. Our club was able to negotiate a significant discount this year by placing a large order early. We also chose to charge members less than the actual price we paid and planned to make up the difference with fundraising.

Skills videos:
On to the fun stuff! Several of our high school players have created skills videos. We will be posting one every few days to our Twitter and Instagram Accounts. We will also be posting team challenges along with the results of these challenges once a week. If you have accounts with these sites, you may follow us. Twitter does not require an account to view posts. The links to those sites are below.

We invite all of our high school lacrosse players to create a skill video to share. You may send them to LizHCrowley@gmail.com or ddberth@gmail.com to be posted.

Finally, we will be using our social media accounts to share drills and training ideas. Please share your videos of your players running these drills or completing our weekly challenges and tag Tolland Lacrosse in your post. We will share these from our account and hope that this provides a way for our players to stay connected and motivated.

Please contact Liz Crowley LizHCrowley@gmail.com or Damien Berthiaume ddberth@gmail.com with any questions.

TOLLAND LACROSSE CLUB - COVID-19 UPDATE 3/24/20

Hello Tolland Lacrosse Families-

We are writing with an update for you concerning our Spring 2020 season.  Over the weekend we received a message from the Connecticut Valley Youth Lacrosse Board (which governs the boys side of our league) indicating that currently the boy’s side has adopted a plan for a 6 week season running from May 1 to June 13.  I believe that the CVGYL is evaluating how to proceed but at this point we are treating our boys and girls teams the same in terms of if and when we start in Tolland.  With this in mind, and in light of the current “Stay at Home” order we expect that it is unlikely that we will begin practicing prior to the return to school on April 20.  We plan to continue to evaluate this situation, taking into consideration school and business closures, and ongoing recommendations of public health agencies and will determine if, when, and how to proceed with the season in the coming weeks.

Based upon all of this there is a possibility that we will play shortened seasons and there is also a possibility that if the Covid-19 situation does not improve, we may not have a season.  If either of those situations occur we are prepared to provide refunds for the season or partial season.

On a more positive note, going forward, we will be sharing videos and links to lacrosse related content.  Some of these videos  will be links to social media accounts of other players, coaches, and other lacrosse clubs andorganizations.  Our goal in providing these is to give our players a way to get outside, play, and become better lacrosse players despite the fact that we can not get together and practice.

The first link is to a US Lacrosse publication called “60 Ways to Play”.

It can be found at: https://www.uslacrosse.org/sites/default/files/public/documents/adm/60WaystoPlay_USL.pdf

This is a resource that can be used not only for lacrosse players but for anyone looking to get out and get some exercise.

We hope that all of you are staying safe and healthy.

Please email Damien Berthiaume at   with any questions.
